The ideology essay

Every question asks how far the traditions agree on one area. You answer to a large, limited or some extent. Here is the method, then a plan-it-together sort.

The golden rule: group your answer by theme, and within each theme deal with both agreement and disagreement. Do not march through the traditions one by one.

Introduction

  1. Content: define the key terms.
  2. Context: show the divides in the ideology.
  3. Line of argument: state your judgement and a reason.

Each paragraph

  1. Topic sentence.
  2. Explain a tradition with a thinker.
  3. Compare with another tradition.
  4. Interim judgement with a brief reason.

Conclusion

  1. Concede the other side.
  2. Assert: to a large, limited or some extent.
  3. End on one clear judgement.

Plan a paragraph: agree or disagree?

Human Nature

Sort each point into agreement or disagreement, then use it to plan a paragraph.

The State

Sort each point into agreement or disagreement, then use it to plan a paragraph.

Plan it together

Sketch a plan by hand or type it. In a room, your tutor sees both.
